Deepfake
Synthetic media that depicts a real person saying or doing something they did not.
A deepfake uses generative models to place a real person's face or voice into fabricated footage or audio. The same underlying techniques power legitimate avatar and dubbing products, so intent and consent distinguish the two. Deepfakes are a primary driver of labelling and transparency regulation.
