Skeletal Animation

Animating a character by moving a hierarchy of bones that deform its mesh.

In skeletal animation a model is bound to an internal bone hierarchy, and moving the bones deforms the surrounding surface. It is the standard technique for body animation in games and real-time applications because it is compact and efficient. Motion capture data is usually retargeted onto a skeleton.
