Uncanny Valley
The unsettling effect of a character that is almost, but not quite, convincingly human.
The uncanny valley describes a dip in viewer comfort as a human likeness approaches realism without achieving it. Small errors in eye behaviour, skin, or timing become conspicuous precisely because everything else looks right. It is a recurring argument for choosing a stylized design over a near-photoreal one.
